Red Deer, Canada

posted by Kyle on February 27th, 2011

I like to do a little research before we go to a new town/city to play music and speak. Since we are going to be spending a week in Alberta, Canada, I thought I would share some of the images that I found in my searching.

As you can tell by the pictures, we are in for some fun. I can only hope that we see a few of these fine features of Red Deer…. Especially “The Donut Mill!”

Robocop Statue in Detroit

posted by Kyle on February 18th, 2011

When flying to Popple events, I pass through the Detroit airport frequently. One of the things that sets it apart is the tunnel that connects the B/C gates to the A gates. It is very trippy, much like the boat ride in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Well, Detroit is about to do something else crazy.

Apparently people raised $50,000 to build a statue of Robocop in Detroit (where the film took place).

Now, I don’t know if this is the best way to spend $50,000 but if they are going to get this statue anyway, I have two requests:

1. Can it be in or near the airport so I can see it when I am passing through?

2. Can Robocop be on a unicorn?

Valentines Day, Vocations, Wild Animals

posted by Dan on February 14th, 2011

Valentines day – the day the Church celebrates the Feast day of St. Valentine, patron saint of: bee keepers, epilepsy, fainting, greetings, plague, travelers, young people – and of course, engaged couples, happy marriages, and love. The Vocation of marriage is awesome, and this morning I was thinking about how in the past two years, both Kyle and I have gotten married to fantastic, beautiful, holy, strong, intelligent women. With this, we very much look forward to long lives together with our wives. Somehow that thought led me to contemplate other things that have lifelong devotions to their partners, wild animals. I’m not sure how I ended up at this thought but I was amused.

French Angelfish, Swans, Gibbons, Vultures, Wolves, Penguins and a number of other animals all have been known to pair off and stick with their partner for their entire adult lives… which is pretty cool. So I’m going to score one point for St. Valentine and one point for St. Francis (patron saint of animals) today.  Maybe you should go tell your valentine that they remind you of a penguin… in a good way. Let us know how that goes.  Happy Valentines Day (thanks to the internet for all the photos- and I appreciate it, but you don’t have to tell me how awesome I am at photoshop).

Footprints . . . in the Snow

posted by Kyle on February 9th, 2011

So, like much of the country, we have lots of snow here in Indiana. I have been trying to keep on top of things and shovel the sidewalks to keep them clean. Really, the only person that comes to our house with any regularity is the mail person (sometimes male, sometimes female). The person doesn’t change genders but … oh, you get it.

I like to keep things nice so he/she doesn’t have to tromp through 2 feet of snow. Apparently, the mail person doesn’t realize how hard I worked to clear a path just for him/her (right about now I am wishing I would have just made the person male for the whole story and been done with it).

I was looking out my window and watched my sidewalk being completely avoided as the mailman walked through the grass/snow.

After getting upset, I thought that is probably how God feels when he has this perfect path for us and knows how much easier our life will be if we just stay on His path. But there I go, blazing my own path totally oblivious that he is watching me and saying, “What the heck are you doing!!!!????”
