Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord

posted by Kyle on March 25th, 2010

“Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.” Psalm 40

Mary was given a choice. She said, “Yes.” Could she have said, “No?” Of course she could have.

Some might say that she was too holy to say, “no.” That reduces her to a God-robot that doesn’t have free will and reduces her “yes” to an automated response – not as powerful.

We all have free will. Hopefully we can make the right choices. Today we celebrate a woman who did.

Moral Quandry: I have my cake, but can I eat it too?

posted by Dan on February 19th, 2010

Here is a photo of Kyle and his lovely wife Kate cutting their Wedding Cake. Beautiful couple, Amen.

One of the most exciting days of the wedding planning experience (for me at least) is the day you get to do a “cake tasting.”  My fiance and I planned a cake tasting with a family friend who makes cakes. That cake tasting is today, today is a Friday in Lent.

Fridays are a day of fasting and I’m pretty sure tasting an array of delicious cake flavors doesn’t well qualify as fasting. Can I fast on an alternate day to compensate for the cake today? What if there is a cake made entirely out of meat products? I’d certainly have to decline that cake. A cake made out of fish however… mmm delicious.

What would you do?
