Kyle’s new ukulele? new bass?
posted by Kyle on January 13th, 2011
When I first heard that Kala (the brand of my ukulele and guitarlele) was making a bass-uke hybrid, I was intrigued. When I saw a few videos posted, I drooled a bit. So here are a few pictures of this amazing instrument that was delivered to me in December. I took a picture next to my tenor uke for size comparison.

The body is a baritone ukulele and it fits in a baritone uke case. The strings are fat silicone strings and although very short compared to a real bass, play the same octave as a full-sized bass. It is tuned the same as a bass guitar also (EADG).
Very fun. Lots to learn. Trying to figure out how it might fit into our set and how many instruments I am willing to take with me on a plane.
Hopefully I can record a video soon to demo it a bit.
Popple’s 2010 Flashback
posted by Kyle on January 1st, 2011

2010 was a great year. We were on the road 118 days, 60 flights and 14,000 driving miles. We met fantastic people, played concerts, praise/worship, adoration and Mass. We spoke at conferences, retreats, rallies and youth nights. We expanded our families by 2 more and our ministry family by thousands. Thanks for supporting us another year. God has blessed us immensely. Here are a few highlights.
- Played music and spoke at the Los Angeles RE Congress
- Kyle had a baby and he loves chewing on kazoos
- 7 weeks straight of camps (going back to a bed makes you miss the floor after that)
- Dan got married and now has optical insurance
- Played some songs and had lots of fun at NCCYM (youth minister’s conference)
I can’t wait to see what 2011 has planned.

NCCYM in New Orleans
posted by Kyle on December 7th, 2010

We are packing up and heading down to the NCCYM in New Orleans. We always have a fun time decorating our booth and this year is going to be great! We also are going to have a special deal as a “thank you” for youth ministers. If you are going, or know someone who is, make sure they check out our bargain booth.
Also, we will be playing twice on Saturday and a few other small things throughout the weekend. We are really excited to play a new song and be involved in some other really cool things (surprises).
Stop by and say, “Hi.” Or send someone on your behalf if you can’t make it. . . . Oh yeah, and I can’t wait for some cajun food!!!
