Taco Tuesday Shirt Could Be Yours

posted by Kyle on August 28th, 2010

Taco Tuesday Shirt ImageOver the summer, I had many people offer to buy this shirt. Rather than sell it, I would like to give it to someone who does something really cool.

Let me know what you would be willing to do for this shirt and if I like your idea, I will mail it to you. Some ideas:

  • Make a donation to a charity
  • A pledge of prayers
  • Do an act of service for someone else
  • Something even cooler and more creative

Post your idea in the comments here or on our Facebook page and I will choose one person and mail this medium sized shirt.

Free Popple Chord Books

posted by Kyle on August 25th, 2010

Sometimes we wonder what the chords are called that we are playing. Well, after much research, we found out what they are. Mostly G, C and D.

Two guitar books

Since many people have been asking for our chords, we decided to put together these books so you can play Popple songs on whatever instrument you have lying around. Use the links below or find them on the bottom of the media page and download the pdf documents for your musical pleasure.

Hip Hip Hooray Tabs

And we would love to know if you post any covers online!

A Popple Summer

posted by Dan on August 20th, 2010

1. Dan more or less kicks off the summer with a new guitar case from Hoffee Cases and a trip to Orlando, FL.
2. We don’t know about you, but our summer was full of Jesus, as pictured here in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
3. Kyle took his brand new baby Sebastian for a swim at Lake Fest 2010! Sebastian hated it! (but secretly liked it)
4. We got to spend four weeks on the road with Kyle’s younger brother Cory – he’s quite popular among nice people with beautifully crafted hair-dos.
5. This is us doing what we do.
6. We met tons of people this summer and many of those people danced with hand motions.
7. Dan was shocked and Kyle was skeptical!

Overall, it was a beautiful summer with loads of amazing new friends and good times. Thanks to everyone we got to spend time with along the way!

Arts and Crafts project: you make a montage of your summer photos and let us know how your summer went.

The Prayer Meme

posted by Kyle on August 19th, 2010

Our friends at Oddwalk tagged us in a prayer meme. They were tagged by Bob Rice who was tagged by the Catholic Youth Ministry Blog (and on and on). So what are Popple’s favorite prayers?

Dan’s response:

My favorite prayer outside of the liturgical prayers used in Mass is probably the “Glory Be”… followed by the prayers of the Angelus:

The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary
and she conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary….
Be it done unto me according to your Word.
Hail Mary…
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us
Hail Mary…
Pour fourth we beseech you oh Lord, thine grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ thy Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His resurrection; through the same Christ our Lord.

and finaly, “Hail, Holy Queen”

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy!
Our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished
children of Eve, to thee do we send
up our sighs, mourning and weeping
in this valley, of tears.

Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us; and
after this our exile show unto us the
blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus;
O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.
Pray for us O Holy Mother of God
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Beautifully crafted prayers… and the Angelus gets extra points for punctuation.

Kyle’s Response:

I would say the Prayer of St. Francis (which Shannon from Oddwalk mentioned). Even if it wasn’t written by St. Francis, it is a beautiful prayer and sums up the Franciscan way of life:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon:
where there is doubt, faith ;
where there is despair, hope
where there is darkness, light
where there is sadness, joy
O divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.

Another prayer is just a simple “Your will be done.” I think I often have my requests but ultimately, I need to remember that God’s will is always better than mine.

And third, I will take this opportunity though to introduce you to a prayer you might not know. It is “Loving Mother of the Redeemer.” Which I first read in the Christian Prayer book.

Loving Mother of the Redeemer,
Gate of heaven, star of the sea,
Assist your people
who have fallen yet strive to rise again.
To the wonderment of nature you bore your Creator,
yet remained a virgin after as before.
You who received Gabriel’s joyful greeting,
have pity on us, poor sinners.

Simple, yet deep.

I guess we are supposed to tag 5 other bloggers. So how about: Greg and Jennifer Willits, APeX, manuel3, Likable Art, and American Papist.

Where is PJ?

posted by Kyle on August 8th, 2010

Dan and I often get asked, “Where is PJ?”

Our 2nd CD, “Pulled in both directions,” featured the hand drum stylings of the very talented PJ Butler. We met PJ at Purdue and he played with us for a good while, including while we recorded that CD. Later, PJ switched schools to Illinois, got involved with FOCUS as a missionary and eventually a teacher.

Sesame Street

His presence in the band was missed but it gives me joy to think that someone else was enjoying his gifts.

We were very excited to hear recently that PJ is now at St. John Vianney Seminary studying to be a priest (God willing)!

Popple with PJ

So today, we salute you, PJ who once was in Popple and then FOCUS, then a teacher and now seminary. Know that you are in your prayers and we look forward to the reunion tour someday. Perhaps we can call it the, “We found our vocations” tour (Since I am married and Dan will be soon).

For good measure, check out this drummer:
