The Uke Never Looked So Big

posted by Kyle on May 18th, 2010

One week ago, my wife gave birth to our first child, Sebastian James. He is the coolest kid I know – even cooler than you. I tried teaching him some ukulele. We started with open strings (GCEA aka: My Dog Has Fleas). Baby steps.

He is actually quite musical – mostly from his backside. Sometimes we really jam out in the basement while mom is sleeping upstairs. He likes the music loud.

I should mention that he really enjoys the drums also. I can’t wait to see what God has planned for his life and his gifts.

Thanks everyone for your prayers, messages, and fruit baskets (ok, no one got us fruit baskets – maybe for the next baby). I hope Sebastian can  meet you soon.

Cool shirts from the PAL Campaign

posted by Kyle on May 17th, 2010

In Los Angeles, we met Joe, the master mind behind the PAL Campaign. We stepped on his toes and made him answer our questions.
How long have you been doing design?
I’ve been drawing for as long as I could remember and really started getting into it in High School. Our “Photography” class at school turned out to be a digital photography class where I was introduced to Adobe Photoshop. The rest is history!
The rest of the classes were History? That is an odd school.
What made you want to start an online tshirt store?
My design interests led me to attend Art School where I majored in Media Arts and Animation. I worked at an animation studio for several years after graduating and also started helping out with the Youth Ministry at my parish around that time. I was asked…or politely forced to do the t-shirt designs for our church camps and retreats. The designs were really well received and the students began to tell me that they were getting compliments and began wearing their t-shirts at school and even to go out! I knew this was a great chance for ministry…a chance for Catholic art to be appreciated once again.
Why PAL?
If only there was a little bit more Peace And Love in the world, it would be a much happier place.
What is your favorite shirt color?
I’m currently in a shades of gray phase. But you can never go wrong with a great white (PAL’s “Dona Nobis Pacem”  or black (PAL’s “PAL 33″) t-shirt.
What is your favorite candy?
Skittles, hands down.
Wrong, the answer we were looking for is “Smarties.”
What is your vision for the future of PAL?
We plan on growing our collection into different apparel items such as sweaters, shorts, and more accessories. Eventually venturing out into secular markets as well. A part of the fun in running PAL Campaign is that although we do have definite short term and long term goals, our growth is and has been very organic. We are always open to where the spirit leads.
Can you break dance?
I have video proof that I can not.
I must see this video.
We like the PAL shirts. You might even see us wear them. We would like to see you wear them too.

Favorite Praise and Worship Songs

posted by Kyle on May 10th, 2010

Many people know that Popple does fun/goofy/inspirational concerts. What many people don’t know is that we also do Praise and Worship music for prayer, liturgy or adoration events.

In fact, this summer we will be playing 7 weeks of camps where we play mostly praise and worship.

As we gear up for that, I would love to hear what your favorite and least favorite praise and worship songs are. Comment below with your thoughts.
