Moral Quandry: I have my cake, but can I eat it too?

Last updated: February 19th, 2010

Here is a photo of Kyle and his lovely wife Kate cutting their Wedding Cake. Beautiful couple, Amen.

One of the most exciting days of the wedding planning experience (for me at least) is the day you get to do a “cake tasting.”  My fiance and I planned a cake tasting with a family friend who makes cakes. That cake tasting is today, today is a Friday in Lent.

Fridays are a day of fasting and I’m pretty sure tasting an array of delicious cake flavors doesn’t well qualify as fasting. Can I fast on an alternate day to compensate for the cake today? What if there is a cake made entirely out of meat products? I’d certainly have to decline that cake. A cake made out of fish however… mmm delicious.

What would you do?

What about rice cakes? Those should be good for lent – and also, fun for a wedding.

The only days of fasting in Lent are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday – the other fridays have prescribed for the abstinence (from meat). If you decided to fast on all fridays, that would be one thing, but the Church doesn’t demand it. I hope you tasted lots of cake that day. :-)
